Colorado Springs · Elopement films

Colorado elopement films

Two of you, at sunrise, on the red rocks. No aisle, no seating chart, no receiving line.

What this is

You will not remember the day clearly. That is the whole problem.

Elopement days move fast and you are inside them. An hour after your vows you will already be fuzzy on what was actually said, what your hands were doing, how the light looked coming over the ridge.

A film is the only thing that gives you the sound back. Photos hold the frame. Video holds the voice, the shake in it, the wind, the exact pause before you got the words out. I record vows on dedicated audio so you can hear them for the rest of your life, not just look at them.

I shoot small on purpose. One person, no crew, no lighting setup, nothing that turns a private morning into a production.

Where couples elope

Places I know well enough to plan around

Garden of the Gods

6,400 ft · 15 min from downtown

Red sandstone fins with Pikes Peak behind them. Small ceremonies are allowed at designated spots on a first-come basis. Go at sunrise, the park fills by nine.

Red Rock Canyon

6,500 ft · Quieter alternative

Same geology as the Garden with a fraction of the visitors. Better if you want to walk a little and not share the frame with tourists.

North Cheyenne Cañon

6,800 ft · Waterfalls, granite

Narrow canyon, running water, dense trees. The only nearby option that does not look like the desert. Best in September and October.

Pikes Peak

14,115 ft · Above treeline

Cold, windy, and worth it. Plan for weather to close the road and have a second location ready.

Before you ask

Questions I get every week

Do we need a permit to elope at Garden of the Gods?

For a small ceremony at one of the park’s designated spots, generally no, though those spots are first come first served and the park asks for a donation. Larger groups and anything set up in advance need to go through the park directly. Verify current rules before you lock a date.

What time of day should we plan for?

Sunrise, almost always. Colorado Springs gets afternoon thunderstorms from late spring through early fall, the light is softer in the morning, and the parks are empty before nine. It is the single biggest decision you will make about how your film looks.

How many people can come?

Anywhere from just the two of you to about twenty. Past that it stops being an elopement and the day needs different planning, which I also do.

Do you work with our photographer?

Yes, and I would rather you book one you love than one I suggest. I stay out of their frames and I do not need to direct you separately. If you have not found a photographer yet, I can point you to several in Colorado Springs who do elopements specifically.

How long until we get the film?

Four to eight weeks. Rush delivery in three weeks is available as an add-on.

Do you travel outside Colorado Springs?

Regularly. Rocky Mountain National Park, Breckenridge, Telluride, Great Sand Dunes. Travel beyond sixty miles is quoted with the package.
